| | I have been absent from updating and reading about all of you for some time now. For lots of reasons. Some time related, some not. Some big, some small. Either way, I can't say for certain whether or not this is a permanent return, or just a chance to share something amazing/terrifying/awe-filled with you.
My mom had a stroke yesterday.
She is currently in the ICU and being closely monitored. I could feel all woe is me, why did God let this happen. But instead I want to tell you about all the amazing things that He did. I have never in my life experienced the visible hand of God and recognized it in such a short time. We were both at work when I went to show her something for a patient, and she told me something wasn't right. And she couldn't get the words out- she sounded like she had a mouth full of marshmallows. She was dizzy and one side of her face was drooped. I looked her over, and one of her cardiologists (bosses) called on the phone. Random? NO! GOD! He told her to go straight to the ER. Another doctor came in, and agreed that something acute was happening. I left all my patients to someone else and headed to the ER with her in a wheelchair. Within a matter of minutes, she was in a trauma room, hooked up, IV in, and had a catscan. All while her stroke continued to evolve. People were moving like a well oiled machine. Random? NO! GOD! I called my neurologist friend (who happens to be one of the best in the US) who marched himself straight down to where we were. He talked with the doc, examined my mom, reviewed the CT and confirmed that she was in fact having a stroke- right in front of our eyes. This was all within 45 minutes of the onset of her symptoms. We cried out to the Great Physician right before she received a potent blood thinning medication and within 5 minutes of it reaching her body, ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS WERE GONE! Speech was clear, droop was gone etc. Random? NO! GOD! Then my tears came. A short while later, our neurologist was walking down the hall with me and said it was really an amazing thing that he was in the hospital. He said he's never in the hospital on Friday afternoons. If he weren't there, she wouldn't have received that medication. It's like I watched His hand move across the entire situation, caring for my mom because He has always had her in His palm. I have more to say about this, but I just wanted to get some of it out, and share it with you. Amazing.
